Azerbaijan, Somalia step up energy cooperation with oil, gas MoU
The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Somalia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the oil and gas sector.
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced the agreement through a post on his official X account, noting that discussions about establishing a robust energy partnership took place with Somali Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Dahir Shire Mohamed, Caliber.Az reports.

“We assessed the opportunities to establish an energy partnership with Dahir Shire Mohamed, the minister of oil and mineral resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the oil and gas sector between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia. This agreement marks a significant step in advancing cooperation by leveraging Azerbaijan's extensive experience in oil and gas projects,” the post by Minister Shahbazov reads.
The MoU marks a significant step toward deepening bilateral ties between the two nations, focusing on cooperation in the exploration, development, and management of oil and gas resources.
The agreement reflects a growing interest in fostering stronger energy relations, with both countries seeking to capitalize on each other's experience and resources to bolster their energy sectors.
The two countries keen to strengthen bilateral cooperation as President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Azerbaijan on February 11-14, 2025, with discussions and agreements focused on strengthening the ties between the nations and promoting cooperation in sectors that are crucial for both countries’ development.
This visit is seen as a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic relations between Somalia and Azerbaijan, with both countries eager to foster a lasting and fruitful partnership.
