Azerbaijan successfully repatriates citizens from Iraq, Syria Amid ongoing reintegration efforts
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry announced the successful repatriation of eight citizens from conflict zones in the Middle East, following coordinated government efforts.
On September 18, six Azerbaijani nationals were brought back from Syria, followed by the return of two individuals from Iraq on October 7, the ministry told Caliber.Az.
In a statement, the ministry outlined that prior to repatriation, the locations, identities, and citizenship statuses of the individuals were thoroughly verified. Azerbaijani representatives from relevant state agencies were dispatched to Türkiye and Iraq to facilitate the process, which included comprehensive medical and psychological assessments for the returnees.
Azerbaijan's diplomatic missions in these countries played a crucial role in coordinating the repatriation efforts, ensuring that citizens received certificates confirming their return to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Looking ahead, the ministry emphasized that a subsequent phase will focus on the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriated individuals into Azerbaijani society. The government remains committed to taking all necessary steps to assist Azerbaijani citizens who have been affected by armed conflicts abroad.
