Azerbaijan to begin consultant selection for trans-regional energy corridor project
Azerbaijan is set to start selecting a consultant to carry out the technical and commercial feasibility study for a new energy corridor linking Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria.
Tural Aliyev, CEO of the “Green Energy Corridor” joint venture, announced the development during a roundtable held to mark International Clean Energy Day, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Aliyev, the project’s technical specifications for the interconnector have already been prepared.
The next step will be launching the process to choose a consultant responsible for preparing the detailed feasibility study.
Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the transmission and trade of “green electricity” was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, and the Ministry of Energy of Bulgaria.
The signing ceremony took place during the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council 11th Ministerial Meeting and Green Energy Advisory Council 3rd Ministerial Meeting.
According to the agreement, the four countries’ energy ministries will work together to explore opportunities for modernising their energy systems and expanding the transmission and trade of electricity.
The memorandum is intended to facilitate cooperation between the public and private sectors on joint investment projects, improve energy infrastructure, and promote the use of renewable energy sources.
