Azerbaijan to enable QR payments for tourists from Türkiye and Kazakhstan
Tourists visiting Azerbaijan from Türkiye and Kazakhstan will soon be able to make payments in the country using the banking applications of their home countries.
This development was announced by Emil Aghjayev, Product Manager at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, during his speech at the Bakı Fintex Forum-2025, as reported by local media.
Aghjayev highlighted that Azerbaijan’s national QR payment standard, AZ-QR, is built in line with international norms, which allows it to function seamlessly across different banking and fintech systems.
“Since AZ-QR is designed in accordance with international standards, it can be easily integrated with QR payment systems of other countries. This means that when integrated with Türkiye or Kazakhstan, tourists from these countries will be able to conveniently make QR payments in Azerbaijan using their banking applications,” Aghjayev explained.
He further noted that similar practices are already common in several Asian countries, where states recognise and support each other’s QR payment systems.
“Azerbaijan is also moving in this direction and strives for international integration in the fintech sector,” he added, emphasising the country’s commitment to aligning its payment ecosystem with global standards.
