Azerbaijan, Türkiye, global partners coordinate ahead of COP31 PHOTO
On February 11-12, Istanbul hosted the first strategic planning meeting in preparation for COP31, bringing together key stakeholders to coordinate efforts for the upcoming climate conference.
The meeting saw the participation of delegations from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Australia, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Lead COP29 Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev. The opening session, held in an online format, featured remarks by Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of President of Azerbaijan on climate issues and President of COP29.
Discussions focused on Türkiye’s preparations to host COP31, the cooperation framework between Türkiye as COP31 President and Australia, which oversees the negotiation process, and strategies to ensure a successful conference. Delegates also exchanged perspectives on action plans from Azerbaijan, Brazil, and Türkiye for implementing the decisions made at COP30.
