Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan discuss electricity export PHOTO
The Azerbaijani Economy Ministry has announced that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have discussed the expansion of cooperation, potential joint projects, and strengthening of energy partnerships.
Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov held a number of meetings as part of his working visit to Turkmenistan, the ministry told Caliber.Az.
The ongoing steps and results of work to strengthen cooperation in bilateral, regional, and international formats were discussed at a meeting with Turkmen Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
Favourable opportunities for diversifying partnerships in accordance with the rich potential and resources of the two countries were emphasised. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is the biggest one among the Central Asian countries. The sides also discussed humanitarian, transport, transit, and inter-port cooperation, as well as the possibility of exporting electricity from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan.
Good prospects for the further development of cooperation in the energy sector were stressed at a joint meeting with Turkmen Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Amanov and his colleagues, in which SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf also took part. Strong ties have been established in this sector, one of the main spheres of the Azerbaijani-Turkmen cooperation. The sides discussed the energy partnership issues on the agenda, the current cooperation on energy exchange, and the joint development of the Dostlug carbon deposit.
