Azerbaijan, UAE’s Masdar accelerate commissioning of Bilasuvar solar project
Azerbaijan has agreed with the UAE renewable energy company Masdar to fast-track construction of the 445-megawatt Bilasuvar solar power plant, set to become the largest solar facility in the region.
The project is expected to be commissioned by the end of this year, according to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The agreement was discussed during a meeting between Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Masdar Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi. The two sides reviewed progress on ongoing solar and wind initiatives as part of Azerbaijan’s broader renewable energy strategy.
At present, solar projects with a combined capacity of 760 MW are under development in the Bilasuvar and Neftchala districts. In addition, wind farms totaling more than 200 MW are being implemented in the Absheron and Garadagh areas.
The talks also focused on Azerbaijan’s plans to expand green electricity exports to Europe and to develop additional generation capacity to meet rising domestic and regional energy demand.
