Azerbaijan, UAE to build "smart" gas grid in project worth $480 million
On July 17, Azerigaz Production Union of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the United Arab Emirates-based Esyasoft Holding signed an agreement for the design, construction, and commissioning of a “smart” gas grid.
SOCAR told Caliber.Az that the project aims to enhance operational efficiency in gas distribution, optimise costs, and reduce gas losses by implementing advanced smart gas management technologies.
Under the 14-year project, 2.5 million smart meters are planned to be installed. Total investment over the period is expected to reach $480 million.
Notably, this agreement follows a cooperation memorandum signed last year in Baku during COP29 between SOCAR and Esyasoft Holding. The deal was signed by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, Azerigaz Director General Azer Mammadov, and Esyasoft Holding CEO Bipin Chandra.
