Azerbaijan, UK step up plans for green energy, power links PHOTO

Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom discussed expanding cooperation in clean energy, decarbonisation and electricity interconnections as part of efforts to broaden their energy partnership beyond oil and gas, Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry said.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held talks with UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman, during which the two sides reviewed the development of bilateral relations and energy cooperation.

The ministry highlighted a solar energy project being implemented with bp in Jabrayil and the electrification of oil and gas infrastructure as examples of a new stage in the energy partnership.

The sides also discussed cooperation on green energy corridors and interconnectors, including the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project. Azerbaijan provided information on the results of the project’s feasibility study and international interest in it.

They also considered continuing expert-level discussions on the project’s next stages and opportunities for British companies to participate.

The parties positively assessed work under a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the clean energy transition, as well as the results of mutual visits and information exchanges.

They also exchanged views on preparations for the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, including issues on the agenda and documents planned for signing in various areas.

The sides agreed to continue cooperation on new projects to further expand the Azerbaijan-UK partnership in energy, trade and investment.
