Azerbaijan unveils ambitious hydrogen plans at Baku Energy Forum

03 June 2025 17:56

Azerbaijan plans to commence hydrogen production by 2035 as part of its long-term strategy to transition to sustainable energy sources, Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov announced during a panel session at the Baku Energy Forum.

Zeynalov underlined that Azerbaijan has significantly ramped up investments in renewable energy over recent years, positioning the country as a future leader in the region’s green transformation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“By 2030, it is planned to put into operation more than 6 gigawatts of green energy, of which 4 gigawatts will be exported,” he stated, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s ambition to become a major green energy exporter.

The deputy minister noted that these exports will be delivered via the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe corridor, following a phased implementation model. This corridor forms a crucial link between the South Caucasus and European energy markets, offering a strategic route for the transmission of clean energy.

“In the next phase, starting in 2035, hydrogen production will be launched,” Zeynalov added, outlining the country’s vision to integrate hydrogen into its clean energy portfolio.

The announcement comes as Azerbaijan hosts the 30th Baku Energy Week, drawing international stakeholders and energy experts to discuss the future of energy in the region and beyond.
