Azerbaijan unveils roadmap for decarbonising energy sector PHOTO
The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan hosted a presentation of the document titled Recommendations on Policies and Technologies for Decarbonization of the Energy Sector in Azerbaijan.
The report was developed under the Low-Carbon Solutions in Azerbaijan's Power Sector technical assistance project, implemented as part of the Memorandum of Understanding on technical support for electricity sector development between the Ministry of Energy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), ministry reports.
The document outlines a comprehensive roadmap for decarbonising Azerbaijan’s electricity sector in alignment with the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) and broader climate goals. It details priority areas, phased implementation steps, and strategic measures aimed at accelerating the transition to a low-carbon energy system.
The roadmap also provides a series of key recommendations to substantially reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the power sector. These cover policy initiatives, generation technologies, legislative frameworks, institutional mechanisms, capacity building, socio-economic measures, and investment priorities.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Energy, Economy, Finance, Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as officials from Azərishig JSC, Azərenerji JSC, the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), and the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA).
