Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan conduct first cross-border transport with digital e-Permit system
Azerbaijan is making significant strides in digitalizing international road freight transport, including the electronic exchange of permit forms between countries.
This modernization effort enhances transparency, streamlines processes, and improves efficiency in cargo transportation.
As part of this initiative, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have successfully conducted their first cargo transportation using the electronic permit (e-Permit) system, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
On January 27, a truck from an Uzbek transport company arrived in Azerbaijan under this new system, marking a milestone in bilateral trade facilitation,
The introduction of full digitalization through the e-Permit system enables the issuance and exchange of permits in a completely electronic format. This system not only reduces the time needed for obtaining permits but also enhances transparency in the transportation sector, the agency stated.
Looking ahead, Azerbaijan plans a phased expansion of the e-Permit system to include more partner countries, further integrating digital solutions into international freight logistics.
Azerbaijan previously conducted pilot transportation using e-Permit with Türkiye. According to the agency, on December 16, 2024, a truck from a Turkish carrier company successfully entered Azerbaijan under the electronic permit system. Likewise, on December 18, 2024, the first Azerbaijani truck using an e-Permit entered Türkiye.
