Azerbaijan, WCO explore expansion of customs cooperation
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has met with Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), to discuss customs reforms, trade facilitation, and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the continued development of the long-standing partnership between Azerbaijan and the WCO, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The discussions focused on ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan's customs system, including the implementation of international standards and initiatives aimed at simplifying international trade, modernizing customs procedures, and enhancing the resilience of global supply chains.
The meeting also covered customs cooperation within regional and international transport corridors, including the Middle Corridor, with particular attention given to strengthening Azerbaijan's role as a regional transit hub.
In addition, Asadov and Saunders exchanged views on opportunities to further expand cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Customs Organization.
Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, Shahin Baghirov, also attended the meeting.
