19 January 2026 19:49

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Finance, Sahil Babayev, met with Sameh Naguib Wahba, Regional Director for Sustainable Development at the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia region, and Rolande Pryce, the World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, to discuss avenues for strengthened cooperation.

The meeting reviewed the current progress of World Bank-supported projects in Azerbaijan’s water and agricultural sectors and examined prospects for expanding collaboration, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Finance Ministry.

“Babayev emphasized that Azerbaijan places great importance on its partnership with the World Bank, noting that Bank-funded projects and the technical assistance provided under this collaboration play a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development. (…) In turn, World Bank representatives praised the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan and the socio-economic achievements of recent years, while expressing interest in continuing the Bank’s partnership with our country in the future,” the Ministry’s statement read.

In addition to ongoing initiatives, discussions explored opportunities for cooperation in transport, logistics, and road infrastructure. Both sides highlighted the importance of intensifying joint efforts to implement potential projects in these areas, promote regional integration, and advance the development of sustainable infrastructure.
