Azerbaijani Defence Minister hails Washington declaration as boost for regional cooperation
Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov said on October 9 that the joint declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on August 8, along with the initialling of a peace agreement, marks a key step towards ending the three-decade-long conflict.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Ankara with his counterpart from Türkiye, Yaşar Güler, and Georgia’s Defence Minister, Irakli Chikovani, Hasanov described the event as historic, opening new avenues for cooperation both in the South Caucasus and globally, Caliber.Az reports per the Defence Ministry.
“Emerging threats such as international terrorism, the security of energy and transport corridors, cyber-attacks, and climate change demand close collaboration and effective responses,” he said.
“We are committed to further developing and deepening cooperation between the defence ministries of our three countries.”
Hasanov emphasised the importance of a united approach to peace, stability, and regional security. He also noted that such trilateral meetings have become a tradition, with close ties and regular contact between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia accelerating the development of their relations.
The ministers also reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts to counter threats to peace and security in the region.
