Azerbaijani delegation attends key African urban forum in Kenya
A delegation led by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan and National Coordinator of WUF13, is taking part in the Second African Urban Forum (AUF2) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hosted by the Government of Kenya with support from the African Union, the forum runs until April 10. This year’s theme is “Adequate Housing for All: Advancing Socio-Economic and Environmental Transformation towards the Realization of Agenda 2063.” The event is recognized as a major platform in the region for discussions on urban planning and sustainable urban development, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During the forum, the Azerbaijani delegation will engage in high-level meetings and thematic sessions. Guliyev, in his capacity as co-chair of the Intergovernmental Working Group for 2025–2026 on the UN-Habitat Assembly resolution “Affordable Housing for All,” is scheduled to deliver a statement outlining Azerbaijan’s initiatives and perspectives.
In addition, Guliyev will hold bilateral meetings with heads of delegations and representatives of international organizations. Discussions will cover current urban development issues and preparations for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), set to take place in Baku from May 17 to 22. A separate briefing for African media and a WUF13 exhibition stand will also be featured at the forum.
The Azerbaijani delegation includes Sultan Hajiyev, Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Nairobi; Aygun Aliyeva, Chairperson of the Board of the Agency for State Support to NGOs; as well as representatives from the Presidential Administration and the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture.
The forum provides an opportunity for Azerbaijan to showcase its urban development strategies while fostering collaboration on sustainable housing and urbanization across Africa and beyond.
