Azerbaijani embassy leads Khojaly remembrance event in Islamabad
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Islamabad, in partnership with one of Pakistan’s leading academic institutions, Bahria University, organized a seminar and photo exhibition to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The event brought together diplomats, heads of Pakistani think tanks and universities, scholars, as well as representatives of the public and media, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Among the speakers were Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bahria University, Professor Farrukh Shahzad; Director of the same faculty, Professor Adam Saud; and Public Relations Officer of one of Pakistan’s most influential think tanks, the MUSLIM Institute, Asif Tanveer Awan.
In their remarks, the speakers provided detailed accounts of the Khojaly genocide, carried out with particular brutality in the city of Khojaly on February 26, 1992. They underscored that the tragedy constituted a crime not only against Azerbaijan but against humanity as a whole.
Participants also emphasized that, due to what they described as Yerevan’s aggressive policy, Pakistan has for many years not recognized Armenia as a state and has consistently supported Azerbaijan at regional and international platforms.
