Baku, EU discuss building new infrastructure for renewable energy supply to Europe
Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, met with Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of the Energy Platform Task Force and International Relations at the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission, who is in Baku to participate in the 30th Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition and the Baku Energy Forum.
According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, the meeting focused on the role of the strategic energy partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Union in ensuring energy security, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Both sides emphasised the considerable potential for further development of this partnership.
Discussions covered the development of infrastructure for the supply of natural gas and renewable energy from Azerbaijan to Europe. The sides also addressed the process of including the "Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Green Energy Corridor" project in the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), as well as green energy interconnectors along the routes "Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria" and "Central Asia–Azerbaijan."
The meeting also included an exchange of views on key issues on the agenda of the third meeting of the Azerbaijan–EU High-Level Energy Dialogue, which will be held in Brussels in the coming days.
Notably, the 2025 edition of the Baku Energy Week is taking place from June 2 to 4, 2025, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This premier regional energy event brings together global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss the future of energy, sustainability, international cooperation. The event facilitates investment discussions and the signing of significant agreements, contributing to the country's energy sector growth and diversification.
The event serves as a strategic platform for Azerbaijan to demonstrate its role in the global energy landscape, balancing its rich oil and gas heritage with ambitions in renewable energy development.
