Azerbaijani FM: Armenia using obsolete technologies at Metsamor nuclear power plant PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, who arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Contact Group in response to COVID-19.
During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IAEA, as well as nuclear safety and the regional situation, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has been implementing joint programmes with the IAEA for many years in many spheres, such as agriculture, the petrochemical industry, medicine, etc.
The minister expressed gratification with the high level of bilateral cooperation and stressed that there are great prospects for its expansion.
Bayramov said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to ensuring nuclear safety.
The Azerbaijani minister stressed the importance of observing the safety standards set by the IAEA, in particular, during the operation of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, where Armenia uses outdated technologies.
Grossi noted that Azerbaijan is an important partner of the IAEA.
He stressed the implementation of joint projects and the prospects available for intensifying cooperation with Azerbaijan in nuclear security and other spheres in which the IAEA specialises.
