Azerbaijani FM, International Organisation for Migration's director discuss activity to support refugees PHOTO

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Director General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino.

Vitorino arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

Highlighting the importance of developing Azerbaijan's ties with the IOM, Bayramov noted that migration issues are effectively regulated in Azerbaijan as a result of the country's successful migration policy and the institutional reforms carried out in this sphere.

Bayramov informed Vitorino about the ongoing restoration and construction work in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation.

The Azerbaijani minister noted that the return of internally displaced people to their native lands is one of the priority issues of state policy.

He also spoke about the implementation of the First State Programme for the Great Return of people to those lands.

The sides also discussed the IOM’s participation in activities to support refugees and internally displaced people, as well as the possibility of joint cooperation in this sphere.

In turn, Vitorino expressed readiness to share experience and support the Azerbaijani government in managing migration processes.
