Azerbaijani minister discusses joint projects with OECD delegation in Baku PHOTO

04 December 2024 12:32

Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has discussed the implementation of joint projects with a delegation of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which is currently in Baku.

The delegation is led by Charles Donald, Chairman of the Working Party on State Ownership and Privatisation Practices of the OECD and Chief Executive Officer of UK Government Investments, Caliber.Az reports, citing Jabbarov’s X post.

“Our discussions focused on the projects implemented in collaboration with the OECD, as well as the priority issues concerning the sustainable operation of the Azerbaijan Investment Holding and its portfolio companies, and their management in alignment with corporate governance principles,” he wrote.

It is important to note that Azerbaijan has been actively engaging with the OECD on various joint projects, particularly in the realm of sustainable development and transport. One of the key collaborations is focused on decarbonizing transport, with Azerbaijan becoming a participant in the OECD’s Decarbonizing Transport in Emerging Economies (DTEE) project. This initiative, launched in Baku in November 2024, seeks to reduce CO2 emissions from the transport sector while enabling emerging economies to maintain economic growth. The project involves various local stakeholders and government agencies, including those overseeing road, rail, and maritime sectors

Additionally, the OECD is involved in assessing and promoting sustainable infrastructure development in Azerbaijan. This includes the identification of critical infrastructure needs and the potential for low-carbon development strategies in the transport and energy sectors.

Through such projects, Azerbaijan aims to align with international climate goals while fostering sustainable growth.
