Azerbaijani minister reveals expected scale of AI-driven labor market changes

17 September 2026 12:19

Azerbaijan’s main goal by 2030 is to become a country capable of effectively adopting and leveraging opportunities created by technological change, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said.

Jabbarov made the remarks at the Baku ID (Baku Investment Day) festival, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He said the modern concept of literacy is becoming increasingly linked to technology, particularly artificial intelligence.

“There are those in the world who create these technologies and those who implement them,” the minister said.

Jabbarov also highlighted expected changes in the labor market, saying that over the next four years, the number of jobs performed exclusively by humans is expected to decline by 50%, while jobs involving interaction between humans and technology are projected to increase by 50%. The number of fully automated jobs is expected to rise by 4% from the baseline level.

“This shows that talent is no longer understood solely in terms of traditional reading, writing and mathematics skills. Digital capabilities are essential for competitiveness,” he stressed.

Jabbarov added that Azerbaijan had successfully completed the necessary stage of ensuring macroeconomic and macrofinancial stability.
