Azerbaijani MP: Peace deal with Armenia could unlock tourism growth

20 May 2026 14:28

Azerbaijani Member of Parliament Parvana Valiyeva has said that the prospect of peaceful coexistence between Baku and Yerevan could significantly enhance tourism development in the region.

Speaking at an event held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Valiyeva highlighted the growing opportunities linked to the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. She framed her remarks within the broader context of post-conflict normalisation, emphasising the economic potential that stability could unlock.

According to Valiyeva, Azerbaijan’s geographic position remains a key strategic advantage. She described the country as a “gateway” between Europe and Asia, underscoring its role as a transit and connectivity hub that could further boost tourism flows if regional peace is secured.

The lawmaker also stressed that Azerbaijan offers a favourable environment for investors, which she identified as an additional driver for the tourism sector's growth. She pointed to the country’s secure conditions and its proactive investment policies aimed at attracting both domestic and foreign capital.

“We have a border with both Russia and Iran. However, Azerbaijan is a safe country. We support investors — both legal entities and individuals. They are provided with various benefits, including tax exemptions for a period of 30 years,” Valiyeva said.
