Azerbaijani official calls for global awareness on Armenian "erasure" of cultural heritage
Aziz Alakbarli, the head of the Western Azerbaijan Community, has called for global awareness on Armenian “erasure” of cultural heritage.
Addressing the scientific-practical conference titled "In the footsteps of the deported heritage", Alakbarli declared that the long-standing "Karabakh issue" has been definitively resolved by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, 27 years after Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s seminal comments on the subject, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The Community head emphasized the importance of confronting what he called "Armenian lies," urging a concerted effort to expose the inaccuracies surrounding the history of the region. He referred to historical evidence showing that Armenians were first resettled in the South Caucasus in the 19th century, a move he suggested has been used to distort the region’s true historical narrative.
“Armenian attempts to erase our cultural and historical heritage continue to this day, particularly in sites like the Tepebashi settlement in Yerevan,” Alakbarli asserted.
“It is essential to reveal the truth to the international community about these ongoing efforts, which threaten the preservation of the region’s rightful history.”
The scientific-practical conference is being organized by the Social Research Center in collaboration with the Western Azerbaijan Community.
A key highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the third volume of the book "Return: Our Material and Spiritual Heritage in Western Azerbaijan."
The conference brought together MPs, representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), scholars, and other prominent public figures.
