Azerbaijani parliament to deepen ties with US Congress
The Azerbaijani parliament has announced plans to enhance engagement with the United States Congress as part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral relations. The initiative is included in the work plan of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Ties for the 2026 spring session.
Lawmakers outlined a series of measures aimed at fostering closer cooperation with the US Congress, citing the recent elevation of Azerbaijan–US relations following the signing of historic documents in Washington on August 8, 2025, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The committee’s work plan also emphasises supporting Azerbaijani parliamentary delegations in international organsations. These include the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Commonwealth of Independent States Parliamentary Assembly (CIS PA), the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), the Turkic Parliamentary Assembly (TURKPA), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (GUAM PA), and the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (Euronest PA).
Further measures aim to improve cooperation between the Azerbaijani parliament and the European Union–Azerbaijan Cooperation Council, while reinforcing ties with parliaments of the Organization of Turkic States, reflecting the view that “our family is the Turkic world.”
Additionally, Azerbaijani lawmakers plan to strengthen engagement with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN) and the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC).
