Azerbaijani, Russian, Iranian officials inspect key North-South Corridor sites
A delegation led by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, his Russian counterpart Alexey Overchuk, and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh visited key infrastructure sites of the international North-South transport corridor in the city of Astara, the Cabinet of Ministers said.
The delegation inspected the road bridge over the Astaraçay River at the Azerbaijan-Iran border, which opened in December 2023, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The bridge has a crossing capacity of 500 vehicles entering and 500 vehicles exiting per day on each side, totalling 1,000 cargo vehicles.
They also reviewed the ongoing construction at the Southern Freight Terminal in Astara, Iran, operated by Azerbaijan Railways, with completion scheduled for the end of the year.
The current annual cargo handling capacity of the South Cargo Terminal is 1 million tons, and it is planned to increase this capacity to 5 million tons.
Additionally, the delegation assessed the progress of the Rasht–Astara railway project on Iranian territory.
