Azerbaijani top diplomat meets IOM Mission chief to discuss cooperation & COP29
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Troy Dooley, Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Azerbaijan, on July 16.
During the meeting, Dooley presented a copy of his credentials to Bayramov, who wished him success in his new role, according to a report from Caliber.Az citing the Foreign Ministry.
The discussion focused on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IOM, as well as preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be hosted by Azerbaijan this year.
Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s strong collaboration with the IOM and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of joint projects aimed at improving migration legislation and institutions.
He also reminded that due to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Azerbaijan faced large-scale migration challenges, with about one million Azerbaijanis becoming refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Bayramov briefed Dooley on Azerbaijan's post-conflict efforts to return IDPs to their native lands.
In discussing COP29, Bayramov emphasized the importance of cooperating with the IOM on various climate change-related issues and affirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness for such collaboration.
