Azerbaijani, Turkish energy ministers tour SOCAR facilities in Türkiye PHOTO
As part of the 4th Türkiye-Azerbaijan Energy Forum, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar visited major SOCAR Türkiye facilities in the city of Izmir.
The ministers toured the STAR Refinery and the Petkim petrochemical complex in Aliaga, which play a strategic role in the economies of both nations. According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, the Aliaga projects form a cornerstone of bilateral energy cooperation, representing a large share of Azerbaijan’s more than $18 billion in energy investments in Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During the visit, officials highlighted Petkim’s six decades of experience in the petrochemical sector and the strategic importance of the STAR Refinery, which has an annual crude oil processing capacity of 13 million tonnes. The delegation was also briefed on SOCAR’s new investment plans in Türkiye.
The visit was attended by government representatives from both countries. The Aliaga complex holds the distinction of being SOCAR Türkiye’s first officially designated “Special Industrial Zone.”
