Azerbaijani, Turkish justice ministries sign document on cooperation PHOTO

Azerbaijani Justice Minister Farid Ahmadov has visited Türkiye at the invitation of his Turkish colleague Yilmaz Tunc.

During the visit, the sides visited the Anitkabir mausoleum, where founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was buried, as well as the monument to Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry told Azertag.

During a meeting with his Turkish colleague, Ahmadov emphasised that relations between the two countries are based on brotherhood and “one nation, two states” principle. The countries successfully cooperate in all spheres at the level of strategic alliance.

He noted that the historical ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan have been strengthened as a result of friendly relations at the level of the presidents of the two countries.

Tunc said that the friendly relations between the two countries and bilateral cooperation have risen to a higher level thanks to the Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye signed in 2021.

The issues of mutual interest in justice were discussed, and the importance of further expanding cooperation between the two fraternal countries in various spheres of the relevant field was emphasised at the meeting.

An agreement was reached to take specific measures to organise mutual visits and bilateral meetings, exchange experience on the penitentiary and probation systems, the introduction of ICT, as well as on increasing the availability of legal services; development of bilateral cooperation in extradition of convicted people, rendering of mutual legal assistance, joint training.

A joint statement on cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye at the end of the meeting.

Moreover, during the visit, Ahmadov visited the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of Türkiye, viewed the opportunities that arose due to the introduction of ICT in penitentiary institutions.

The meetings were also held at the Turkish Justice Academy and at the General Directorate of Information Systems of the Turkish Justice Ministry.

Ahmadov viewed the activity of the Justice Academy and the educational process and met with candidates for work in the courts studying here.

A presentation was shown at the General Directorate of Information Systems about Türkiye's experience in e-justice services.

The sides also visited an open penitentiary institution and viewed its activity.
