Azerbaijani urges G20 to enhance climate finance efforts ahead of COP29 in Baku
Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov has urged G20 countries to intensify their efforts to achieve the climate finance goals at the upcoming COP29 in Baku.
Speaking at the event "Brazilian Financial Direction COP28-G20: Making Sustainable Finance Possible, Accessible, and Acceptable" in Rio de Janeiro, Sharifov stressed the urgent need for adequate financial support to combat the global climate crisis, as reported by Caliber.Az via local media.
He highlighted that one of the key topics for the 29th session of COP in Baku will be reaching an agreement on a new climate finance goal. Sharifov emphasized that the COP29 event in Baku will provide a crucial platform for establishing a fair and ambitious new financing target and restoring confidence in the Paris Agreement. He called on G20 finance ministers to make additional efforts to adopt this new target within the year.
