AZPROMO: Azerbaijan industrial zones attract over $5 billion, create 20,000 jobs
More than $5 billion has been invested in Azerbaijan’s industrial zones, creating over 20,000 jobs, according to the executive director of the Agency for the Promotion of Export and Investment (AZPROMO).
At the 51st Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Baku, Abdullayev said Azerbaijan’s industrial zones now span more than 1,700 hectares and offer long-term tax exemptions, including relief from profit, property and land taxes, as well as VAT and customs duties on imported equipment, local media reports.
He also highlighted the Alat Free Economic Zone, which provides 100% foreign ownership, unrestricted profit repatriation and strengthened intellectual property protections under a dedicated regulatory framework.
“The government continues reforms to simplify procedures, digitalise tax and customs systems, and strengthen investor protection,” Abdullayev said.
He added that Azerbaijan aims to expand its role as a regional logistics hub, pointing to planned infrastructure developments and the strategic position of the country between Europe and Asia.
The proposed Zangezur Corridor was described as a key project expected to further boost transit capacity and attract logistics-related investment, including warehouses, distribution centres and container terminals.
Logistics and warehousing remain among the most promising sectors for foreign investment, Abdullayev said, citing growing interest in digital logistics platforms and cold storage facilities.
