Baku Airport soars in popularity as passenger influx grows
The Heydar Aliyev International Airport (Baku Airport) witnessed an extraordinary surge in international travel throughout January 2024.
In the reported month, more than 437,000 passengers were carried on the international routes of Baku Airport, which means an increase of 39 per cent compared to the corresponding period of last year, the airport's press service told Caliber.Az.
During the month, 313,000 passengers were served by 36 airlines, including 15 budget carriers, totalling 4,225 flights.
Foreign airlines accounted for 50.8 per cent of passenger traffic on international routes, with the rest going to the national carrier. Foreign airlines served more than 222,000 and Azerbaijan Airlines 215,000 passengers.
About 47,000 passengers were transported in the direction of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In addition, the number of transit passengers increased by 56 per cent compared to January last year and reached 21,000 people.
In January 2024, new destinations were opened from Heydar Aliyev International Airport and the frequency of flights on popular routes was increased. Given the dynamic development of the aviation industry and growing demand for air transport, Baku Airport continues to improve its infrastructure, services and offer new opportunities for passengers.
