Baku Metro eyes modernization with Czech rail technology
Baku Metro Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) is exploring potential cooperation with the Czech rail manufacturer Skoda Group, following a high-level meeting between the two parties.
Vusal Aslanov, Chairman of the Board of Baku Metro CJSC, hosted a delegation led by Petr Novotny, Chief Executive Officer of Skoda Group, one of the Czech Republic’s leading rail transport producers. The meeting also included Milan Sedláček, Czech Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Discussions centered on the possible supply of railcars from Skoda Group and the broader framework for collaboration. Particular focus was given to projects outlined in Azerbaijan’s State Program for 2025–2030, including the potential acquisition of up to 300 new railcars designed for low operating costs.
Novotny emphasized Skoda Group’s extensive experience in executing major infrastructure projects worldwide, its application of advanced technologies, and its accumulated operational expertise. He expressed the company’s keen interest in establishing a cooperative partnership with Baku Metro CJSC.
