Baku preparing for COP29 climate change conference Engineering communications on the agenda

20 February 2024 15:20

The Azerbaijani State Agency for Automobile Roads (AAYDA) has conducted a round table in connection with the organization of the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the 19th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement in Baku in 2024.

The participants discussed issues on the preparation of plans of common measures, namely - identification of underground and above-ground engineering communication lines in connection with major repair and rehabilitation activities on a number of streets and avenues, coordinated joint work on repair and change of places, identification of communication maps and their submission to the State Agency, APA reports.

As one of the world's recognized centers of multiculturalism and using its ties in building bridges between North and South and West and East, Azerbaijan is ideally positioned to facilitate all-inclusive discussions to make tangible progress in climate negotiations at the COP29.

Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev made the relevant remarks at a roundtable discussion on the 28th and 29th sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28 and COP29).

"As we enter the COP presidency, we are extremely grateful for your work and intend to build strong ties with all of you. At COP28, we made a great choice for the future. We are honored that Azerbaijan has been chosen as host of COP29 and we understand the great responsibility we have," he said.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan will build on the momentum gained in Dubai during COP29 and will move forward further based on collective calls for further action.

Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks in 2024.

Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
