Bangladesh in talks with Azerbaijan over LNG supply
Bangladesh is currently negotiating with Azerbaijan on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood said during a panel discussion at the Baku Energy Forum, Caliber.Az reports.
“We are now looking for alternative sources, particularly those that would allow us to avoid transportation through the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, we have developed good relations — for example, as you know, we signed a contract with SOCAR to purchase gasoline from here, and we are also discussing LNG supplies because we require massive volumes of liquefied natural gas,” Mahmood said.
He added that Bangladesh has its own natural gas reserves, but they are insufficient to meet domestic demand as well as electricity generation needs.
