Minister: Belgrade discusses up to 1 billion cubic meters gas supply deal with Baku
Belgrade is in talks with representatives of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on the possibility of increasing Azerbaijani gas supplies to Serbia to up to 0.9 billion cubic metres per year, Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović-Handanović told Report.
According to the minister, over three years of partnership, gas deliveries from Azerbaijan to Serbia have doubled, reaching around 2 million cubic metres per day at peak levels in 2025.
“In our discussions with SOCAR representatives, we are considering the possibility of flexible supply of up to 0.9 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and, following the completion of the gas-fired power plant in Niš in 2030, an increase to up to 1.4 billion cubic meters,” she stressed.
Đedović-Handanović noted that approximately 600 million cubic metres of gas per year will be required for the operation of the Niš gas power plant.
“For this reason, we see SOCAR as a long-term partner in ensuring Serbia's energy security,” she added.
