bp: Oil transportation via BTC continues

08 February 2023 19:12

Representative of bp’s operator dealing with oil production at Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and the Azerbaijani and Georgian sections of the BTC oil pipeline Tamam Bayatli has said that the situation in the Ceyhan port on the Mediterranean coast of Türkiye is regarded as force majeure.

The Azerbaijani oil which is supplied here via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline is not transported via the tankers due to a powerful earthquake on February 6, Bayatli told Report.

She noted that market participants and shippers have been notified since February 7.

The shipment of oil from Ceyhan, where the terminal for the export of Azerbaijani oil is located, was suspended by Botas International Limited (BIL), which is the operator of the BTC and the terminal in Türkiye.

Bayatli added that the operator is assessing the situation and should inform bp and partners about the possibility of continuing operations for oil shipment via tankers from Ceyhan.

The bp representative said that the company continues pumping oil from the Sangachal terminal in Baku through the BTC pipeline. Oil is supplied to Ceyhan and filled into storage tanks here. Ceyhan port has seven oil storage tanks, each with a capacity of one million barrels.

Bayatli noted that at the moment, there are opportunities for oil storage. Export via BTC continues. Oil of other origin, in particular from Kazakhstan, is also exported from Ceyhan via BTC.
