BP to complete Central Azeri Gas Expansion project in September
Energy major BP expects to complete its Central Azeri Gas Expansion (CAGE) project in September, aimed at boosting gas reinjection capacity and enhancing oil recovery at the Central Azeri platform, the company said in a report on its January–June 2026 operations.
“The CAGE project is aimed at increasing gas reinjection capacity into the reservoir at the Central Azeri platform and is designed to help maximise oil recovery from existing wells. The project implementation began in January 2026,” the report said.
BP said work on the project progressed in line with schedule during the first half of the year.
“A major overhaul was carried out on four gas injection compressors on the platform by replacing internal rotating units and auxiliary components. All this work was completed safely and ahead of schedule while ensuring uninterrupted platform operations, meaning without the need to halt production or conduct additional gas flaring,” the company said.
Additional modifications provided by the project will be implemented during a scheduled maintenance program at the Central Azeri platform in August.
“After that, upon completion of all remaining final works, the project will be completed in September this year,” the report said.
