Central Asian athletes celebrate unity and success at Paris Olympics
On their return from the Paris Olympic Games, athletes from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan celebrated each other’s victories, highlighting a sense of regional unity.
Uzbekistan led the Central Asian countries with 13 medals - eight gold, two silver, and three bronze - finishing 13th out of 206 countries on the medals table, Caliber.Az reports via the Times of Central Asia.
The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan allocated $5.8 million earlier this year to prepare for the games. Gold medalists received $200,000, Chevrolet Tahoes, and two-story cottages, while silver and bronze medalists were awarded $100,000 and $50,000, respectively, along with BYD Song Plus cars and apartments as a president’s gift.”
Kazakhstan, which invested $13.5 million in its Olympic preparations, won one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, placing 43rd overall. Gold medalists received $250,000, with silver and bronze medalists receiving $150,000 and $75,000, respectively.
Kyrgyzstan, which spent $3.2 million on training its athletes, earned two silver and four bronze medals, placing 68th. Silver medalists were awarded $83,000, while bronze medalists received $60,000.
Tajikistan secured three bronze medals, placing 79th overall, with each athlete receiving $4,500. Unfortunately, Turkmenistan did not win any medals despite the participation of six athletes. Details regarding funding for the Tajik and Turkmen teams were not disclosed.
