China transits over 600,000 tons of cargo through Azerbaijan PHOTO

Ten container block trains were sent from the Chinese province of Xi'an to Azerbaijan in January 2024, of which three trains were with transit cargo, while seven trains - with imported cargo.

One of the block trains reached Georgian ports 10 days after departure from the Chinese-Kazakh border. The transit cargo, mainly consisting of technical equipment, was unloaded directly from the ships, loaded onto Azerbaijan Railways trains and sent to the Black Sea port city of Poti in Georgia, Azerbaijan Railways company told Caliber.Az.

Some 615,000 tons of cargo were transited in January 2024, which is the highest figure during the last 10 years.

The period for multimodal delivery of imported goods after departure from the Chinese-Kazakh border was eight days. The cargo was loaded directly from the ships onto Azerbaijan Railways block trains and delivered to their destinations.

Currently, six more container block trains are travelling from China towards Azerbaijan, of which four trains are carrying import cargo, while two trains – transit cargo. Import cargo is planned to be delivered to destinations in the same way, that is, within eight days, while transit cargo - within 10 days.
