CICA promotes circular green tourism under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship
Under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is actively working to promote circular green tourism across Asia, Kairat Sarybay, CICA Secretary-General, has stated.
Speaking at the Circular Green Tourism in CICA Countries conference held in Baku, he said the conference highlights the dual role of tourism, which can represent both a challenge and an opportunity for development, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
According to him, for local communities, the tourism industry is a source of income and jobs; for small businesses, it provides access to new markets; for the younger generation, it provides skills acquisition and active participation; for states, it provides a tool for cultural diplomacy and sustainable development; and for entire continents, it provides a path to deepening cooperation and strengthening mutual trust.
“The historic Silk Road connected peoples, trading platforms, cultural traditions, and ideas. Today, a renewed tourism Silk Road is needed, one based on principles of sustainability, digital innovation, responsible engagement, creating value for local populations, and environmental protection. Under Azerbaijan's chairmanship, CICA stands ready to engage with member states, partner organizations, tourism institutions, and private sector representatives to advance this agenda,” Sarybay added.
