Death toll in Gaza rises to over 51,000 since October 2023 Ceasefire hopes fade
The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 has risen to 51,025, according to the latest update issued by the Health Ministry in Gaza.
The ministry reported that 25 people were killed and 89 others injured in the past 24 hours alone, as Israeli air and ground assaults continue across the besieged enclave, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Since the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement that took effect on January 19 and was breached on March 18, at least 1,652 Palestinians have been killed and 4,391 wounded, the ministry added.
In total, 116,432 people have been injured in the Israeli offensive, which began following the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in early October last year.
Authorities in Gaza note that the actual death toll may be higher, as bodies are still believed to be trapped under rubble from destroyed buildings. Search and rescue efforts remain difficult due to ongoing hostilities and a worsening humanitarian situation.
The figures could not be independently verified, and the Israeli military has not commented on the latest numbers.
