Defence minister: Armenia working on equipping army with modern weapons
The Armenian Defence Ministry is actively working to equip the national army with modern weapons and military equipment as part of a broader effort to reform and strengthen its defence capabilities, Defence Minister Suren Papikyan said.
Speaking at a seminar organised by the Rose-Roth Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Papikyan noted that the government’s policy of diversifying arms procurement markets has made it possible to acquire more advanced equipment, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He said that alongside these efforts, the ministry is focusing on the development of strategic documents aimed at introducing a new defence model based on updated criteria.
The minister noted that as part of this reform process, Armenia is receiving ongoing professional and specialised advice from both the United States and France. In addition, Greece is providing comprehensive assistance across several areas of defence development.
The topic of the seminar is “Armenia and the South Caucasus in a Changing World: Strengthening Democracy and Regional Security.”
