Diplomat: US sees potential in Trans-Caspian corridor

The United States is increasing its focus on the South Caucasus, seeing potential for the development of the Trans-Caspian trade corridor and expanded opportunities for American businesses, US Chargé d'Affaires to Azerbaijan Amy Carlon said at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026).

Carlon said US-Azerbaijan relations had developed significantly over the past 14 months, citing a visit by the US vice president, the launch of the inaugural economic dialogue and subsequent high-level contacts between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via local media. 

"I think it is very clear that the United States is currently prioritizing the South Caucasus region," Carlon said.

She also pointed to a recent event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York focused on the TRIPP connectivity project, as well as remarks by US President Donald Trump highlighting the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia in August.

Carlon said Washington's increased attention to the region represented a longer-term policy focus rather than a temporary shift.

"This is not something that will fade away. This represents a new focus for the US government, as we genuinely see the potential of the South Caucasus within this Trans-Caspian trade corridor, as well as opportunities for American business, mutual prosperity, and ways we can bring peace and new possibilities to this region," Carlon emphasised.
