Elbit Systems Deutschland has secured an order from Lufthansa Technik to fit the German government's Airbus A350 aircraft with its advanced J-MUSIC™ Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection systems.
The order follows a decision by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and is part of a five-year contract, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
This installation marks the first use of Elbit’s DIRCM system on an A350, adding to the growing portfolio of contracts and aircraft models for the company's cutting-edge technology.
“We are proud to be working with Lufthansa Technik on this important project and look forward to further strengthening the impact and trust in our solutions,” said Wolfgang Bauer, CEO of Elbit Systems Deutschland.
Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, highlighted the increasing demand for the company’s self-protection solutions, noting that their DIRCM technology has proven to be reliable and effective. “As threats continue to increase, more and more nations are turning to Elbit Systems’ self-protection solutions to protect their fleets,” he said.
Michael von Puttkamer, Vice President Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik, emphasized the importance of this project in light of growing global instability. "The security situation demands that Germany ensures the protection of its own leadership," he stated.
Elbit's J-MUSIC™ DIRCM system is designed to protect aircraft from advanced surface-to-air missiles, using cutting-edge laser and imaging technology. It has been deployed on various military and commercial platforms worldwide, providing high-quality protection and securing its reputation as a leading solution in the field.
Elbit Systems, a global defence technology company, continues to advance its solutions to meet evolving threats, with a reported $1.7 billion in revenues and an order backlog of approximately $22.1 billion as of September 30, 2024.
