Erdogan: Türkiye in talks with Russia and Ukraine on new grain corridor
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that Türkiye is actively engaged in discussions with Russia and Ukraine regarding the restoration of the Black Sea grain trade arrangements.
Erdogan shared these insights with journalists accompanying him after attending the NATO summit in the United States, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"We are currently in negotiations with both Russia and Ukraine to reopen the grain corridor. So far, we have not seen any concrete outcomes from these talks. My recent discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia were centred on this issue, and during the NATO summit, I also addressed this matter with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. We are keen to collaborate with Ukraine to resume operations through this corridor, and I am optimistic that we can make progress soon," Erdogan stated.
Erdogan emphasized Türkiye's previous efforts under the Black Sea grain initiative, highlighting its role in facilitating grain exports to Western markets and Africa while also benefiting Türkiye's own agricultural interests.
"During the operation of the initiative, Türkiye took fair steps to meet the demands of both Russia and Ukraine. Now, we are proposing to reopen this crucial grain corridor to enhance regional trade and stability," Erdogan explained.
