Erdogan welcomes Israel-Iran ceasefire, urges commitment to diplomacy
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, expressing Ankara’s hope that the truce will be lasting.
Erdoğan urged both sides to strictly uphold the ceasefire, emphasising that Türkiye remains committed to its principled stance on the Israeli-Iranian conflict — a position rooted in respect for international law and a strong preference for diplomatic solutions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
“The region cannot bear the burden of war, the consequences of which will affect the whole world,” Erdoğan warned, adding, “We must give diplomacy a chance.”
He also called on major international powers to take decisive action. “Global players must take effective measures to put an end to this recklessness. Otherwise, both the region and the whole world will pay the price,” the Turkish leader cautioned.
In addition to the Israeli-Iranian ceasefire, Erdoğan underscored the urgent need for a long-term ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the importance of ensuring the continuous and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the territory.
Turning to Syria, Erdoğan stated that the Syrian government is committed to fighting all terrorist groups, including ISIS. He affirmed that Türkiye is currently providing, and will continue to provide, necessary support to Damascus in its counterterrorism efforts.
