EU ambassador: Mine clearance - one of priorities for Azerbaijan
Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Azerbaijan Peter Michalko has said that the European Union (EU) actively supports Azerbaijan in demining its territories liberated from occupation.
Michalko made these remarks at the event entitled “European Mine Action Team Initiative”, Report informs.
“The mines became a big threat to the Azerbaijani population from the very beginning of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. The EU will render support in demining Azerbaijani territories,” the ambassador said.
“We see that mine clearance is one of the priorities for Azerbaijan. The EU is ready to support Azerbaijan in this issue,” he noted.
The ambassador also emphasised that the EU has provided Azerbaijan with a grant worth 10 million euros ($10.7 million) to support the mine clearance process since 2020.
“The EU is a strong and close partner of Azerbaijan. We have priorities in this cooperation. Azerbaijani citizens have been suffering from mines since the beginning of the conflict, and all these years the EU has been close to Azerbaijan,” Michalko added.
