EU develops infrastructure to expand Azerbaijani gas supplies, says energy official
The European Union is developing infrastructure to expand Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe.
The European Commission's Director for Energy Policy Strategy and Coordination Cristina Lobillo Borrero made the remarks at the opening ceremony of Baku Energy Week, Report informs.
Borrero said the EU attaches great importance to the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan in the energy sector.
She said bilateral co-operation with Azerbaijan, among other things, is aimed at facilitating the energy transition.
"I welcome the fact that Azerbaijan has joined the global commitment to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency worldwide by 2030, as well as the global commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 per cent during this decade," she said.
COP29 represents a unique opportunity to crystallise ideas in a way that enhances European energy security, Cristina Lobillo Borrero also noted.
She said the conference would help increase investment in renewable energy, strengthen the industrial base, promote a fair energy transition and trade in the European market, and certainly set the economy on a path to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by mid-century.
