EU’s Jørgensen heads to Baku for Southern Gas Corridor meetings
EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen is set to visit Baku to take part in a series of high-level discussions focused on the development of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and cooperation in the field of green energy, the commissioner’s office told local media.
During the visit, Jørgensen is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani officials and participate in a joint press conference following the talks.
The trip will coincide with the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the SGC Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, both scheduled to take place in Baku in early March.
Ministerial meetings within the SGC Advisory Council framework have been held regularly since February 2015, while dedicated green energy ministerial sessions have been organised since February 2023.
The Southern Gas Corridor is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transporting natural gas from the Caspian region to European markets. Amid rising European demand for Azerbaijani gas, plans are under discussion to further expand the project by increasing the capacity of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), enabling higher volumes of gas deliveries to Europe.
